Follow These Tips When Camping With Pets
Is there anything more enjoyable than sitting by a bonfire with your furry friend while you gaze up at the starry night sky? We don’t believe that to be the case. You can have exciting adventures with your pet while camping, but you must keep your pet safe. To protect your pet’s safety when camping, heed the advice from our team.
#1: Test your tent before taking your pet camping.
If this is your pet’s first camping vacation, introduce them to the tent by having a practice session in your yard. To help your pet grow familiar with the smell, texture, and sounds of your tent, set up your tent and allow your pet to sniff, lick, and explore it. Reward your pet for being brave and venturing out on their own rather than forcing them into the tent.
#2: Make sure your pet is noticeable.
Lack of electricity makes it difficult to see at night, especially if your pet has dark fur. Use a reflective collar or harness at night, or get an LED collar for your pet to wear, to make sure they’re easy to spot.
Make your pet extremely noticeable when trekking during the day by using neon colors. If your animal friend wanders off, a bright orange collar or vest can help you locate them.
#3: Read up on pet first aid.
Your canine companion may trip over a hill while camping, come into contact with a thorn, or come across a nest of stinging insects. To stabilize your pet’s condition while you travel to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital for treatment in a distant environment, you must be skilled in pet first aid.
#4: Arrange a veterinary visit.
Make sure your pet is prepared for a wilderness experience before setting up your tent at your campsite. In addition to your pet’s core vaccinations, leptospirosis and Lyme disease vaccinations may be advised. Leptospirosis is a disease spread by animal urine. Stock up on parasite prevention before leaving so that you are prepared for protection against fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes as well.
